Pine Rivers Celtic Folk Outfit
A Rollicking Bush Orchestra on the Urban Fringe
2005 -2007
The Pine Rivers Celtic Folk Outfit is a community based musical performance group presenting the songs, music, dance ad cultural experience of our Celtic Australian Heritage. Folk music is often described as 'music for the people by the people' and a collection of historical folk songs from a particular place or time will often paint an alternative portrait to the official recorded history.
Traditional instruments such as Concertinas, Button Accordions, Piano Accordions, Penny Whistles, Bodhrans (Irish Drums), Fiddles, Banjos, Guitars, as well as Lagerphones, Shakers and various other instruments create the timbre of the music. A key criteria for folk instruments throughout history has been their portability.
The music is generally played in unison meaning all instruments play the melody with on occasional harmony and bass line included. Harmonising is more prevalent in the vocal component of the songs with most players also singing in on choruses.
The Group is run by Mic Travers a professional full time musician and entertainer with over 18 years experience who has lived and worked in many parts of urban, rural and remote Australia both as a musician and as a contributor to the creation of sustainable futures for Australia , its people, its environment and its heritage.
The group has a mailing list to receive updates and to facilitate the exchange of rare and unusual traditional songs. They also have a song book available at the weekly jam session held at Finnigan's Chin, Kallangur Wednesday Evenings.
The Pine Rivers Celtic Folk Outfit is available for Community Events, Bush Dances, Fetes, Fairs and Functions.
